Find Missing Persons - Use Social Networking Sites

It may sound obvious, but have you checked online social networking sites and missing person message boards to try and find your missing person? Many private investigators often overlook these tools, as they have access to more powerful databases, but they do help people to find each other.

The top social networking site is www.myspace.com. People have their own webpage within Myspace and they use it to link to all their friends’ webpages. Most people often list their webpage in their own name under their High School and university in the directory. You just need to know their name, their school and the year they last studied there. If you can’t find them, there’s a good chance you can find someone you two have in common and email them to try and reconnect you. www.bebo.com is a good social networking site for the UK and USA as well.

If you’re missing person isn’t listed then publish your own webpage so they can find you! It’s easy, all you do is fill in some forms and Myspace will create the page automatically.

Missing person message boards are less popular as they’re used only for posting missing person notices and not just for day to day chit chat like the social networking sites. There are lots of these free services around, some are international, others cater for a specific country. As they’re a form of public online website the search engines (www.google.com, www.msn.com, www.yahoo.com ) crawl them and if you type the person;s name into the search engine any messages left about them on a message board will be listed. It’s usually best to include a home town in the search in case you get 1000s of results.
